Tour Overview
The Marine Life Encounter at Cairns Aquarium is a premium, small-group experience designed for visitors who want deeper access, hands-on interaction, and insight into marine conservation. This three-hour experience combines general admission entry with an exclusive guided behind-the-scenes tour led by one of Cairns Aquarium’s wildlife educator guides.
Your experience begins with self-guided exploration of the aquarium’s nine Tropical North Queensland ecosystems, moving from freshwater rivers and rainforest habitats through mangroves and out to the Coral Sea. Midway through the visit, you’ll meet your guide and step into restricted areas not accessible to the general public, including the quarantine zone and animal food preparation rooms.
The highlight of the Marine Life Encounter is the opportunity to hand-feed Cownose Stingrays alongside the curatorial team, followed by feeding giant freshwater rays and barramundi at the River Monsters exhibit. The experience concludes with a visit to the Cairns Turtle Hospital, where you’ll learn about sea turtle rescue, rehabilitation, and conservation, with all proceeds supporting turtle care and recovery programs.
