Tour FAQs

What is the minimum age for the Crystals Canyoning Tour?

How long does the Crystals Canyoning Tour take?

You should allow around 5 to 5.5 hours total, including transfers, gear-up, briefing and the canyon experience itself. Every day can vary depending on weather, water levels and the group pace.

Where does the tour start and finish?

Crystals lists Cairns City as the start location, with shuttle transport returning you to the main pick-up point after the canyon. If you’d prefer pick-up from accommodation, the agent notes say to request it at booking.

What activities are included on the day?

Crystals is a hands-on canyoning experience at Crystal Cascades, combining abseiling/repels, sliding, jumping, swimming and exploration through rainforest pools and waterfalls. The exact route can change day-to-day, as the operator chooses the safest option based on conditions.

Is this tour suitable for beginners?

Crystals is described as ideal for intermediate to advanced adventurers, but it can be adapted for keen first-timers who want more challenge. Unlike some easier experiences, this tour can include compulsory elements and a more technical feel. If you’re unsure, ask about suitability.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer?

The operator states participants need a very basic level of confidence in the water to manoeuvre during the tour. You’ll be in freshwater pools and moving through wet environments, so comfort in water and on slippery surfaces is important—even if you’re not doing long swims.

What’s included in the price?

Included items listed are seasonal wetsuits/thermal tops, personal safety gear (helmet, harness, carabiners, life jacket), trip safety equipment (ropes, first aid etc.), and qualified, highly experienced international guides, plus return shuttle transport between the pick-up point and the gorge.

Do you provide shoes, or do I need my own?

You can bring your own closed-toe runners/joggers that can get wet. Shoe hire is available for an additional cost per person if you don’t have suitable footwear. Socks are optional, but many guests prefer them for comfort inside wet shoes.

What’s the difference between Behana and Crystals canyoning?

The operator notes that both are unique due to different scenery, but the key practical difference is structure: Behana is designed with optional activities and is open to younger ages, while Crystals has compulsory elements and is 12+. Crystals also features up to five abseils and a zipline listed in the comparison notes.
